Xianglang Festival: a traditional festival in Tibet
Xianglang Festival is a traditional festival in Labrang area, Tibet. The Tibetan word for "Xonglang" means collecting firewood. It is said that at the time of the initial construction of the Labrang Monastery there were many monks, but there were only a few donors nearby. So the Labrang Monastery received limited assistance and difficulties in maintaining the monks' lives. In particular, the fuel issue was difficult to solve. In order to solve this problem, monks went to the wild to collect timber at a specified time every year. Later, the Labrang Monastery had set the annual "Xianglang" festival, and during Xianglang activities time, monks would carry tents, cooking utensils and food, then go to the field and collect timber. As time passing, people living in the villages near the monastery followed the monks, and gradually become today's Xianglang Festival.
During the festival, people usually set up tents in the wild, gather in villages and gather together to enjoy food and drink. The "Xianglang Festival" reflects the traditional nomadic life in Tibet and the true details of the nomadic life of the Tibetan people. However, in recent years, as the industrial structure in Tibet has changed, more and more herdsmen have started to settle down. The festival has been seldom celebrated.
