An international research team ledby Professor Zhongjian LIU successfully drew out the high quantity whole-genomegenetic map of dendrobium catenatum. Moreover, the research on medical usage hadachieved initial outcome.

The research result has been published on Scientific Reports which is the subordinate serial of Natureon Jan 12, 2016. It is an important result on genomic research of orchids around the world.

Professor Liu said that the accomplishment of the dendrobium catenatum whole-genome genetic map not only solved the critical scientific problem on the evolution of orchids, but alsoprovided important source and foundation on the exploitation and genetic breeding of dendrobium catenatum..

The research found that dendrobium catenatum had the same gene dosage with Phalaenopsis. It is a diploid plantwith 38 chromosomes and 28910 protein-coding genes. The genome size is 1.11 GB.

Besides whole-genome sequencing, the research team did research on the development and utilization with themolecular data. The team selected the excellent variety ShenLan No.1which have active components and can be cultivated easily. Through an animal experiment, the team found that the dendrobium catenatum micro molecules had a signific anttherapeutic effect on Alzheimer disease. It provided the molecular basis forthe drug development.

The research team consists of Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Cheng Kung University,Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Ghent University, Saitama University and so on.
