Reporter learned from the Provincial Environmental Protection Office that black pig (Pu City frame pig), golden tea and tippy tea which from Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture Luxi, Guzhang, Baojing, Yongshun County have been successfully selected for the Global Environment Facility "National Framework for the Establishment and Implementation of Genetic Resources and Related Knowledge on Access and Benefit-sharing" (the "ABS Project"). Recently, the Provincial Environmental Protection Office and the Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture government organized the "ABS project" kick-off meeting, marking the project officially entered the implementation phase at the local demonstration level.

"ABS project" was development by the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection and supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Finance. The project file was officially approved by the Global Environment Facility in February, 2016. The objective of the project is to establish various aspects of ability in China which include law, system and management to promote the providers of genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge to share benefits from the users of resources and to increase the motivation for providers to protect and sustainably use genetic resources, in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization. Through the early application, Hunan has become one of the three pilot provinces of the ABS project.

The legislation, training, baseline survey, benefit sharing and other work of the ABS Project will be gradually promoted in Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan. Moreover, in order to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, the project management coordination mechanism which led by prefecture government and involved in many departments has been founded in the Prefecture.
