Precision medicine, translational medicine and big data of health all rely on biological samples. High-quality biological samples are guarantees for reliable and valuable big data. From the news conference held by Biochip Shanghai National Engineering Research Center, we knew that General requirements for quality and capabilities of biological sample banks has been approved to release by the authority, which is China's first national standard for biological sample banks, marking the construction our country’s biological sample banks has entered the era of comprehensive standardization, recognition and standardization management.

Biological sample banks, also known as biobank, stores not money but biomacromolecules, cells, tissues and organs. With the development of the health big data industry, these biological data closely related to disease information play a vital role in disease prediction, disease prevention, early screening, early detection and personalized treatment. Now, more and more biological banks have emerged across the country.

The national biological samples released this time are highly consistent with the international standards released in August last year, which also combined with the current quality of China's biological samples. It is said that this standard rules on the terms, definitions, general requirements, organization structures, resource requirements, process requirements and management requirements of biological sample banks’ quality and ability. In other words, biological samples uses the same standard in the collection, transportation, record, research and even the ethical aspects of the operating procedure.

The national recognizing standard for biological sample data (trial version) released on the meeting, which was the first national recognition criteria in the world, means that the construction of biological sample banks would have some certain specifications. China will provide training to the construction of biological sample bank and release the corresponding license in accordance with the standards released this time.
