After identification by researchers from Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, it was confirmed for the first time that 31 rare and endangered species of Diantong Tree were found in the baoshan section of Gastricong Mountain National Nature Reserve.

Dian tong for linden dian deciduous trees of the genus paulownia, but in the new classification system APG Ⅳ, was listed in the malvaceae. Diantong is a second-class national key protected plant, and also one of the minimal wild plants determined by the state to be protected and saved. It is mainly distributed in Yunnan, and there are also two small communities in Dushan, Guizhou and Motuo, Xizang. The number of individuals of this species found in China does not exceed 250, which is of great research value.

This time, the species was found in Tengchong, baoshan section of Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve. Through the identification of specimens and audio-visual materials by many experts from Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, it was confirmed to be Diantong tree. The largest tree in this diantong group is nearly 30 meters tall, about 200 years old, with a DBH of more than 100 centimeters. The smallest tree is about 10 years old.

It is not the same species as another species belonging to a very small population. Due to the narrow distribution area, the number of population and individuals is very small. It can be seen from the habitat of This discovery that two or three plants coexisted, single or rare, with almost no seedlings around, and the natural regeneration rate should be very slow. In 1999, Diantong was listed as a key plant under secondary protection and as an "endangered plant".

The discovery of wild population of Diantong has filled in the basic distribution information of Diantong in Gaoligong Mountain, and also reflected the effectiveness of local protection work. In recent years, with the increasing protection awareness of the public and the strengthening of protection measures taken by governments at all levels, many rare and endangered plants and animals have been frequently found in Baoshan, especially in Gaoligong Mountain, which is known as the "gene bank of world species", playing an irreplaceable role in the protection of biological diversity. According to incomplete statistics, more than 600 new species have been discovered in Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve since 1980.
