On June 5^th,2016, “the First Intangible Cultural Heritage Week of Shanxi Province” kickedoff at Xi’an New World Department Store. By organizing intangible cultural heritage protection propaganda and exhibition activities, this intangible cultural heritage week intended to raise a public awareness and popularize knowledge of the importance of intangible cultural heritage protection, andcreate a good atmosphere of universal participation to protect the intangible cultural heritage.

This activitywas guided by the Shanxi Provincial Cultural System Reform and Cultural IndustryDevelopment Leading Group Office, sponsored by Shanxi Cultural Industry Network,West Network, Shanxi Radio and Television Network, co-organized by ShanxiJinqiu Culture Development Center and undertook by Xi’an New World Department Store.Many inheritors, such as Liehan MI, a famous master of traditional Chinesemedicine, Qinhua YAO, a Suzhou embroidery master, Yongxia YAN, a Sichuanembroidery master, Linzhuan YANG, a Qianyang embroidery master, Zhenjie ZHONG,the twelfth descendants of Chen Style Tai Ji, Ruixia FU, a famous farmer painterand hundreds of leaders, guests attended the opening ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Lijun JU, the director of Shaanxi Provincial Cultural System Reformand Cultural Industry Development Leading Group Office made a speech which basedon deeply excavating Shanxi ancient intangible cultural heritage, this activity aims to base on the contemporary time to do regional culture and artisticinnovation, so that the new cultural achievements of Shanxi would have morelocal characteristics, reflecting the unique national spirit of the Chinesenation and promoting socialism culture with Chinese characteristics to developin depth.

Jianjun RAO, the chairman and editor in chief of West Network said that Shanxi Cultural Industry Networkhas been integrated Shanxi intangible cultural heritage resources in virtue ofculture as the media, using a combination of online and offline to launch theseries of special reports “Deep into the intangible cultural heritage in Shanxi”,experiencing and exhibition activities in order to achieve Shanxi intangible cultural heritage display and promotion exhibition with all media channels.

Plenty of intangible cultural heritage projects, such as Chen Tai Ji, drum dance, sword and martial arts performances rooted for the opening ceremony. Qinqiang, a Shanxi opera, lighted up the atmosphere and won applause from the audience.

The activity has continued until June 20^th. During the Intangible Cultural HeritageWeek, visitors can experience woodblock New Year pictures production and MashaoFace painting. Meanwhile, there are Dragon Boat Festival traditional craftexperience and numerous parent-child activities of experiencing intangible cultural heritage culture.
