On July 16^th, the reporter learned from the Southern County Cultural Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau that the Southern Shadow Play has been officially listed as the UN World Cultural Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the UNESCO Review. The Southern County Cultural Center has also been officially approved. It is “the first batch of intangible cultural heritage experience bases in Sichuan Province”.

It is reported that the southern shadow play originated from Mawang Township in the southern county. It has been circulating since the Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 300 years. Its shape, performance, and music all have strong local characteristics in northern Sichuan.

In recent years, the cooperation between the Mawang Puppet and local governments has been strengthened, which not only increases the number of shadow puppetry inherits, but also enriches the repertoire and gets closer to the reality, so as to adapt to the changing situation and the needs of the audience and bring more vitality to the shadow puppetry.
