On September 7^th, at the 11th International Rheumatology Academic Conference of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, experts and scholars exchanged and discussed the basic research, clinical application and future development of traditional Chinese medicine for treating rheumatic diseases. The concept of differentiated diagnosis and treatment, the concept of prevention before illness and raising evil spirits, and the whole process of intervention in the management of chronic disease, show unique advantages and broad development prospects in the fields of prevention, diagnosis and treatment and long-term management of autoimmune diseases.

In recent decades, the combination of Chinese and Western medicine has been widely used, which became an indispensable part of the clinical treatment of domestic autoimmune diseases. There are many TCM treatment methods, including compound decoction, Chinese patent medicine, Chinese medicine external treatment, acupuncture and so on.

For a variety of inflammatory joint diseases with joint swelling and pain as a clinical feature, TCM external treatment can make up for the lack of effective effect of internal medicine and improve the therapeutic effect. TCM can not only synergize with western medicine to reduce the activity of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, relieve the disease, and effectively alleviate the symptoms of dry mouth and dry eyes in patients with Sjogren's syndrome, but also smoothly reduce hormones in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

At present, the mainstream model of medical knowledge and practice in the world is evidence-based medicine with scientific evidence as the core. Clinical evidence has become the main basis for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of medical treatment measures. Fan Yongsheng, a professor at Zhejiang University of TCM, pointed out that there are many cases of clinical cases reported by TCM for treating rheumatism, and the lack of evidence-based medicine research is a hindrance to the promotion of Chinese medicine treatment.
