Multilayer Paper-cut Art Gives Fresh Energy to Folk Paper-cut

Paper-cut is not onlyhollow paper-cut for window decoration but also canpresent the three-dimensional effect.On the paper-cut art exhibition called “hometown·memory”held by the capital Museum on Oct 13th,Li Min, a paper-cut artist, showed the freshenergy of traditional paper-cut to the world through multilayer paper-cut workswith the new realism.


An audience who was at theexhibition exclaimed that it was unbelievable to see the work which not onlylooked like photos but also painting. 


According to what theauthor said on scene, this paper-cut work with the volume of a meter square wasaccomplished on ten layers of chinese art paper through thesuperposition of paper-cut step by step. It presents the change of light andshadow and the intense stereoscopic feeling.


Wei Sangang, the secretary-general of associationof Beijing collector, said that it was a fearless try. Li Min’s work withrealism contains the love of home and life and shocks people a lot. He presentsthe well-proportioned three-dimensional effectthrough the superposition of paper-cut with different color step by step. Hiswork makes the traditional Chinese art be in line with age very well.


Lin Min said that althoughChinese paper-cut intangible was included in the cultural heritage list in2009, traditional paper-cut was on a stagnation stage on monolayer paper-cut.Many paper-cut artists forced to give up the craft. He wants to appeal to thepaper-cut artists to inherit the culture, so he explores unceasingly on thebase of traditional paper-cut.


Lin Min said that thecraft and process of multilayer paper-cut was much more complex than the monolayerpaper-cut. But it brings forth new ideas to the craft and artistic expression and also expandthe market of paper-cut. He hopes that the paper-cut confirm to the age cancarry forward in this time.
