Regulation on the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Wuhan was Formally Implemented

On November 1st, 2016, presided and completed by Jianxian CHEN, a professor and deputy director of Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center in Central China Normal University, Regulation on the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Wuhan(hereinafter referred to as The Protection Regulation) was formally came into effect, becoming the iconic achievement on the social service of this center.


The Protection Regulation was an achievement of the local regulatory project in the cultural field which Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Culture commissioned in 2013. After three years’ comprehensive study and investigation, the research group compiled The Protection Regulation with the concept of protection-oriented. And it was deliberated and approved formally. The implementation of The Protection Regulation indicates that the research results of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center in Central China Normal University have been transformed into the legal regulations.


It was reported that Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center in Central China Normal University was founded on January 13th, 2006, which was one of the earliest domestic university research institutions of intangible cultural heritage and the first one in Hubei Province. The center affiliated to the School of Arts. Shouhua LIU, a famous scholar, was served as the director of the center, Jianxian CHEN and Yude WANG were acted as the deputy directors as well.


The research center above was established on the basis of the establishment of the Folk Culture Research Center in Central China Normal University in 2000. The center had actively participated in and supported the national intangible cultural heritage protection work for more than a decade, focusing on the exploration, research and protection of the intangible cultural heritage in China and Hubei Province. Besides, the research center was awarded as the advanced unit for the intangible cultural heritage protection by the Ministry of Culture in 2007. It was the only university research institution that gained that laurel as well.


The center had integrated internal and external resources and undertaken twelve national projects and eight provincial projects. What’s more, it had published over thirty books and works of intangible cultural heritage and cultivated more than fifty masters or doctors in this field. Furthermore, it had established academic relations with many foreign universities, becoming an important base and social service platform for the research and protection of the intangible cultural heritage.
