China's agricultural genetic resources are the strategic resources to ensure national food security, support the high-quality development of agriculture, and also the important material basis for human survival and development. The seed industry is the "chip" of agriculture, and the agricultural genetic resources are the "chip" of the seed industry. To protect and make good use of the agricultural genetic resources is of great significance to improve the development level of modern seed industry, promote the high-quality development of agriculture and implement the rural revitalization strategy.

Recently, the seed industry management department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has held three training courses and launching meetings related to the protection of agricultural genetic resources, deeply analyzing the situation and tasks faced by the protection and utilization of agricultural genetic resources, exchanging experience and practices of various provinces, in order to effectively improve the protection ability and level of genetic resources protection. The seed industry management department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has held training courses on the protection of agricultural genetic resources, the collection of pig genetic resources materials, and the launching meeting on the investigation of livestock and poultry genetic resources on the qinghai-tibet plateau.

Rich in species resources, prominent in the status of genetic resources

China has a long history and a complex ecological environment. Under the combined effects of long-term natural selection and artificial selection, rich and diverse crop germplasm resources have been formed. Compared with the achievements of crop germplasm resources, the collection of livestock and poultry genetic resources started late. The diversity of livestock and poultry genetic resources has also been seriously threatened. According to the second national survey of livestock and poultry genetic resources, the population of nearly 300 local livestock and poultry species has declined, accounting for more than half of the total number of local livestock and poultry species, and about 14% of the total number of endangered or endangered species. Rescuing "wild species" from the brink of extinction and protecting rare species in "sanctuaries" have become the primary tasks of genetic resources protection.

Responding to African swine fever, rescuing rare local pig breed resources

At present, the species and quantity of local pig resources in China continue to decline, and the "local pig crisis" has attracted much attention. However, with the pursuit of high-quality brand pork and the understanding of the fine germplasm characteristics of local pig species, local pig species have shown great utilization value and broad market prospects. Since the first African swine fever was introduced into China in August last year, the disease has spread rapidly. Under the great threat of the epidemic situation, it is urgent to rescue a batch of rare or even endangered genetic resources. It is very important to monitor and purify diseases in pig farms.

A survey of livestock and poultry resources on the qinghai-tibet plateau was launched

As a huge genetic treasure house of rare animals in China, the special geographical location and natural environment of qinghai-tibet plateau have formed precious and unique livestock and poultry genetic resources, which are generally characterized by cold resistance, hypoxia tolerance, stress resistance and strong adaptability. The survey of Tibetan areas was carried out mainly around the qinghai-tibet plateau in six provinces (districts). On the basis of previous work, a comprehensive survey, collection and arrangement of yak, goat, horse, donkey, poultry, bee and other livestock and poultry resources were carried out. Compared with the previous two surveys, this resource survey is more comprehensive, deeper and more demanding.
