The average age of inheritors is 58, without a post-80s one.

It is understood that theselection of inheritors started from 2009.And three batches of people have beenrecognized. There are two people of 30s in the latest published batch ofinheritors, four of 40s,eleven of 50s,thirteen of more than 60 years old, atthe average age of 58,without a post-80s one.

"Theinheritors tend to be older. The previous batches have no post-80s, mostly overthe age of 50.This batch has post-70s."The staff of Intangible CulturalHeritage Protection Center in Jinan said that Jinan has five state-levelinheritors and 20 provincial ones.

The difficulty of inheriting intangible cultural heritage

"From the age structure of inheritors we cansee the difficulty of the inheritance." The staff of Intangible CulturalHeritage Protection Center in Jinan said the municipal inheritors were gettingold. Due to the higher provincial and national requirements, they are mucholder. The smallest one is more than 50 years old. In addition to age, theeconomic considerations are one of the reasons as well." Young people mustconsider to feed their families. It likely to be hard up for money if theycompletely rely on the projects for a living, such as paper cutting, doughmodelling." The staff say.

In order to publicize theknowledge for the protection of intangible cultural heritage, Mass Art Centerand Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center in Jinan have run 17 timesof public intangible cultural heritage classes since 2008,with the populationof over 3000 participants. And the 18-time class was held in October this year.Meantime, they also bring intangible cultural heritage into the campusactivities and let inheritors demonstrate and explain.

At present the national protection work has been carried out for ten years. Butin the eyes of the intangible cultural heritage protection and inheritors, socialattention of intangible cultural heritage is still not high. Inheritors need torecruit disciples so as to be handed down from generation to generation. However,it is not easy." In addition to see the interests and perseverance, personalqualities are also considered. However, not all people are able to do suchthings and young people are apt to consider whether there are job opportunities." One of the staff said.
