On December 29^th, 2018, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government announced the fifth batch of representative projects of the intangible cultural heritage of Sichuan Province, totaling 89 items. These 89 intangible cultural heritage projects cover ten categories: folk literature, traditional music, traditional dance, traditional drama, folk art, traditional sports, entertainment and acrobatics, traditional art, traditional techniques, traditional medicine, and folklore. So far, the number of the representative project of provincial intangible cultural heritage in Sichuan Province has increased from 522 to 611.

It is of great significance that the "Traditional cooking techniques of Sichuan cuisine" is included in the fifth batch of representative projects of Sichuan intangible cultural heritage. Sichuan cuisine occupies an important position in the history of Chinese cooking. It has developed from the blend of cultures of the Bashu land for thousands of years, and is connected with the blood of the daily life of the Bashu people. It has become one of the eight major cuisines in China and enjoys a high reputation all over the world. 

The inclusion of “Traditional Cooking Skills of Sichuan Cuisine” in the fifth list of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage in Sichuan Province is conducive to carrying forward the unique value of Sichuan cuisine, enhancing the cultural identity and cohesiveness of Sichuan people, protecting and inheriting Chinese excellent traditional culture, and expanding the influence of Chinese culture and Bashu culture in the world.
