It isreported that the research team in the Second Xiangya Hospital, Central SouthUniversity has decoded a new type of leukemia disease genes from clinicalcases. It would have important significance to reveal the pathogenesis of leukemia.

ZhangGuangsen, the professor of molecular blood disease lab in the Second XiangyaHospital of Central South University, said that his research team has found anew subtype of APL(Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia) and has cloned the diseasegene---GTF21-RARA of APL. This research achievement has been published on British Journal of Haematology, theauthority of international haematology.

Throughdiagnosing and analyzing a atypical patient with acute leukemia, they have foundthe potential abnormity in cytogenetic and molecular biology, by using thetechniques of flow cytometry, karyotype analysis, fluorescence in situhybridization and molecular biology method. Based on early researches, theyhave made a definite diagnosis that the patient fell ill with variant APL. Theprofessor have found the new type of fusion gene and cloned the whole genecoding sequence with new sequencing technique with his students.

Thisfusion gene has been registered in gene database of National Center forBiotechnology Information (ID: KP100665). It would be public to the whole worldand be copied to European Human Gene Pool and Japanese DNA Database.
