Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture announced that Regulation on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Korean Nationality in Yanbian Korean Autonomous would be put into implementation on June 16, 2015. This regulation is the first local legislation of Jilin Province on the protection of intangible cultural heritages.

Regulation on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Korean Nationality in Yanbian Autonomous was passed by the 4th conference of the 18th People’s Congress in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture on January 22, 2015 and was approved by the 17th conference of the 12th People's Congress Standing Committee in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture on May 26, 2015. It comes into force upon promulgation.This regulation contains 36 articles which make specification on the identification, planning, supervision, management, development and utilizationon intangible cultural heritages complying with the protection principles on the guidance of government and the participation of society. It also ascertainsthe responsibility of the government and the related departments, the rights and obligations of intangible cultural heritage project units and inheritors,the social security measures and the corresponding legal liability.

Intangible cultural heritage of the Korean Nationality has hundreds of years of history, which is the foundation of the culture of the Korean Nationality and important part of the Chinese culture and can also give supports to the prosperous cultural confidence and cultural awareness of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. Recently, there are 78 prefectural intangible cultural heritages in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, 61 of which are listed into the provincial intangiblecultural heritage list and 17 of which are listed into the national intangiblecultural heritage list. The Farmer's Music-Dance of the Korean Nationality was listed into Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2009. The implementation of this regulation will make a healthy and sustainable promotionon the protection work on the intangible cultural heritages of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture to construct a perfect and reasonable work system. It is necessary to improve the supporting system and the implementation effect of theregulation and to strengthen the supervision on the implementation and research to make it better.
