Yantai, a city of Shandong province, recently issued “The Notice on Announcing the Fifth Batchof Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage List by Yantai Municipal People's Government”, including 16 municipal intangible cultural heritage projects and 6 outreach ones. So far, Yantai has had a total of 113 intangible cultural heritage projects, including 14 national ones, 33 provincial ones and 113municipal ones.

In the outline of the 13^th Five-Year Plan of Yantai, culture will become the pillar industry. Intangible cultural heritage, one of the important resources of Yantai’s cultural treasure, a part of the “Provincial Cultural Industry Golden Seed Program”, is a beautiful business card to show China to the world. One ofthe CPPCC members once said, “‘the beauty of intangible cultural heritage’ is the essential element of ‘Beautiful Yantai’ and ‘Charming City’. It inherits theart and wisdom of generation after generation, and it has recorded beautiful folk stories running from mouth to mouth, which is the living cultural fossil of continuing city culture and bearing the city spirit.”

Yantai, anational historical and cultural city, with a profound history, has extensive cultural heritage. During the long-term production and life practice, laborious and intelligent people of Yantai accumulated a splendid intangible cultural heritage. Nowadays, Yantai has researched nearly 7,000 cues into ten categories, including folk literature, traditional music, traditional dance,traditional drama, Quyi, traditional sports recreation and acrobatics,traditional arts, traditional craft, traditional medicine and folk customs.Through intensive census, a batch of important data and precious materials of intangible cultural heritage obtain good protection and can be inherited and developed well.
