The Achimugua Dance: The Dance Related to Goats for Lisu Ethnic Group
The Achimugua Dance is a kind of traditional dance of the Lisu ethnic group which is popular in Diqing, Yunnan Province. The word “Achimugua” means the dance which is relevant to goats in the Lisu ethnic language. It is said that ancestors of the Lisu people created the Achimugua Dance by imitating the behavior of the goat.
The dancing forms of the Achimugua Dance has a total of more than ten kinds, motions and sounds are obvious imitations of goats and nomadic life situations with a strong originality and nature. By presenting with music and dances, it shows the image of the nomadism and the behavior of the goat which is an important livestock to the Lisu people, expressed the hope to the happiness and the affection to the environment.
The Achimugua Dance has been regarded as an important folk dance by both the local populace and the government. The Diqing government has schemed to protect the Achimugua Dance in details. In the meanwhile, inheritors of the dance introduce the Achimugua Dance all the time. They take a place to help people learning the dance and organizing the performance by the local people. All these work results that the Achimugua Dance has been put onto the Intangible Cultural Heritage List finally.
