On November 18th, 2017, the first professional Institute of Intangible Cultural Heritage was established in Nanjing, Jiangsu, relying on Nanjing Mochou Vocational School.

Based on the protection, inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage, the Institute tries to cultivate skilled inheritors with artisan spirits, innovation and entrepreneurship, providing a new path to protect and inherit intangible cultural heritage and improve the occupation education system.

In addition to cultivate senior talents, another important task for the Institute is to provide a stage of teaching and learning intangible cultural heritage. The Institute classifies Nanjing intangible cultural heritage projects, and aims at constructing relevant exhibition and experience museums, carrying out propaganda, communication and experience activities, generalizing traditional skills through the summer camps and holiday weekend classes, and promoting the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage.

In professional settings, the Institute will make full use of local rich intangible cultural heritage resources, combining the Nanjing cultural and creative industry structure, deepening the school-running system of cooperating with enterprises, factories and industries, which truly embodies the deep integration of the inheritance in Nanjing and the modern occupation education system. It is reported that the Institute will offer intangible cultural heritage courses, such as ancient books reparation, woodblock printing, velvet flowers, Qinhuai lanterns and so on.

The construction and development of the Institute is of great significance to the protection, inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage in Nanjing. It is a highly integrated innovation of the intangible cultural heritage inheritance and the modern vocational education system.
