Recently, the "fourth list of representative projects of intangible cultural heritage in Nanjing" was officially announced. Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties and the Ten Dynasties Metropolis, has rich and unique regional cultural characteristics. In recent years, it has vigorously explored folk literature projects and increased the protection of folk literature. 

This year, five more projects have been included in the list of intangible cultural heritage, including the story of Hanmen Sanjinshi, the legend of Tongluojng Cowboy and the Weaver Girl, The Legend of Yuhuatai, The Legend of Yangbang, and The Story of Xinting. So far, the Nanjing Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage List has 23 folk literature stories.

The categories of intangible cultural heritage projects are generally divided into ten categories: folk literature, traditional techniques, festival folklore, and traditional sports and so on. Compared with other categories of intangible cultural heritage, the category of "folk literature" has its own characteristics: folk literature is a collective oral literature that has been passed down from generation to generation, is a language art, and its carrier is spoken language.

Nanjing's folk literature can be roughly divided into four categories: historical figures, religious stories, local cultural stories, and pure folklore. The local cultural stories have clear imprints of the times and regional characteristics, and can be subdivided into six aspects of cultural stories, Qinhuai cultural stories, Hushu culture stories, Liuhe cultural stories and other aspects.
