On March 27^th, the Changde Municipal People's Government announced the “List of the Fifth Batch of Municipal Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Projects in Changde City”, including the Quyi project “Three Sticks Drum” and the traditional arts project “Wangyang Mahua Making Skill” in Shimen County.

So far, Shimen County has 4 provincial intangible cultural heritages, 8 municipal intangible cultural heritages, 30 county-level intangible cultural heritages, 4 provincial representative inheritors, 7 municipal representative inheritors and 22 county-level inheritors. “Three Sticks Drum” is a form of music performance that we like to see. “Wangyang Mahua Making Skill” is the delicious taste of every Shimen people. 

Three Sticks Drum are also called the flower drums. The performers are mainly used to go to the village during the Spring Festival to celebrate the New Year, send auspiciousness and blessings, and also perform for the festive performance. It is a kind of rap performance art on the spot, usually performed by two people. The main props are a drum, a cymbal, and three wooden sticks or three knives for throwing performances. The “Three Sticks Drum” is a highly skilled performance song. It sings popular words, short words, rhymes in each section, and sings only with gongs and drums.

The production technology of Wangyang Mahua has been circulating in Wangyang Bridge in Shimen County for more than 300 years. It can be traced back to the middle of the Qing Dynasty. After generations of continuous exploration and inheritance, this production technique has become increasingly perfect and unique.

With its production techniques and unique flavors, Wangyang Mahua has been paid attention to by all walks of life and has become a brand in small food. In 2015, it won the gold medal of China and Hunan 7th (International) Agricultural Fair. In 2007, it was awarded the best-selling product in Changde City.
