The Fujian Province Intangible Cultural Heritage Regulations will be implemented on June 1. At the press conference of the Fujian Provincial Government held on May 31, Su Zhongming, Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Fujian Provincial Department, said that after the implementation of the regulations, the province will strictly carry out the protection and preservation of intangible cultural heritage in accordance with the regulations.

It is reported that the regulations regulate the definition of intangible cultural heritage, the duties of government and cultural administrative departments at all levels, the investigation of the list of representative projects at all levels, and the procedures established. They have distinctive Fujian characteristics. The regulations adhere to protection, emphasizing the implementation of the principle of priority for representative projects that are on the verge of disappearance, as well as projects with provincial and regional characteristics and unique cultural forms.

It is reported that the province has four world heritages including “Wuyi Mountain”, “Fujian Tulou”, “Gulangyu” and “China Danxia-Taining”; five projects including the Maritime Silk Road are included in the “China World Cultural Heritage Preparation List”. There are 492 traditional Chinese villages; 291 points of 137 national key cultural relics protection units, 921 provincial-level cultural relics protection units, and nearly 5,000 cultural relics protection units at the city (county, district) level.

Seven projects including Nanyin were selected as UNESCO heritage list (list), 130 national-level intangible cultural heritage representative projects, 143 representative inheritors, 2 cultural and ecological protection experimental zones, and 517 provincial-level projects. 579 protection units, 735 inheritors, 1 cultural and ecological protection experimental area, 15 cultural and ecological protection demonstration sites; more than 1,300 intangible cultural heritage projects managed by the city and county.
